Do any of the complete levels work Unity free edition?

Recommended Posts

Do any of the complete levels work Unity free edition? I wanted to just see what Unity could do.  Whenever I load up anything it says errors, those features only available in Unity Pro.

And the older ones give far more errors than that.

Also found out Unity forces you to pay for a year to use Pro.  They mention a monthly fee option but then when you check out it says you will be billed that much every single month for a year and no way out of it.  So just trying it out seems like a more costly ordeal.  All the Arteria assets I import end up taking up a massive amount of space.  So any game made with them in Unity would be massive in size once completed.

Has anyone on these forums made a completed game in Unity yet?

Hi Thomas,

The complete levels will work the same in both Free Unity and Plus/Pro.  That being said, some of the older ones were made for older versions of Unity and may require some minor adjustments once imported.

I am currently in Alpha for a game built almost entirely of Arteria products using Unity Plus.  Originally the game size was approaching 300 MB for mobile, which seemed like a lot for me.  My solution was to lower some of the image sizes down as well as decimate some of the 3D models.  I also looked at trimming the sound files down to the bare minimum as well as switching them to mono where it wouldn't make a difference.   We are now looking at about 130 MB file size.

My advice is to do what I did.  Use Unity Free/Personal as long as you can.  There is very little difference initially when development is in it's infancy.  Later on, when you see a feature that is required for your project that is not in the free version, make the choice to upgrade then.

Cheers!

If you are still having problems.  Let me know.  I can walk you through the steps to get this up without any problems.  Also, in addition to removing the scripts, you may want to remove the shaders.

It is also better to do this as you import, instead of deleting, since it is easy to miss something.

I just redid that level and it looks good over here.  Maybe Steve will let me export it and upload it back to the site.  Just a thought.

Oh, one more thing.  The water should also be left out and then reimported through unity standard assets as water(basic).
